PWHL announces Canadian broadcast plans, Prime Video as new partner

The Professional Women’s Hockey League announced its Canadian broadcast plans on Thursday, with just over two weeks to go until the puck drops on its second season.

TSN, RDS and CBC/Radio-Canada return as PWHL broadcast partners, while Prime Video comes aboard, collectively delivering all 90 games of the regular season.

CBC will have a weekly game on Saturday afternoons – 17 of them. New this year, Prime will have exclusive Canadian coverage of all 16 Tuesday night contests. TSN will broadcast 57 games across its linear channels and digital platforms.

The PWHL’s second season opens on Saturday, Nov. 30, when the Boston Fleet visit the Toronto Sceptres, carried live on CBC, CBC Gem and cbcsports.ca.

“The composition of our Canadian broadcast schedule reflects a growing interest in women’s hockey and a commitment from our partners to showcase the PWHL to fans and new audiences on a variety of platforms,” said Amy Scheer, PWHL senior vice-president of business operations.

The PWHL’s second season will be longer than the first, which made its debut last Jan. 1. There are more games – 30 for each of its six teams for a total of 90 – after just 24 each last year, totalling 72.

The PWHL playoffs will open with one semi-final series exclusively on TSN and RDS and the other on Prime Video, while TSN and RDS will carry the PWHL final.

The PWHL says it will announce its U.S. broadcast partners, schedule and talent at a later date.
