After guiding Colorado to a come-from-behind victory at Texas Tech on Saturday, quarterback Shedeur Sanders has been honored by the Big 12 Conference.
On Monday, Sanders was named the Big 12 offensive player of the week after throwing for 293 yards and three touchdowns and rushing for a score in CU’s 41-27 win at Texas Tech.
It is the first conference player of the week award for Sanders this season but the 12th of his collegiate career. While at Jackson State, he was the SWAC offensive player of the week once and the newcomer of the week five times in 2021; and he was the offensive player of the week four times in 2022. He was the Pac-12 player of the week once in 2023 with CU.
After the 18th-ranked Buffs (7-2, 5-1 Big 12) fell behind 13-0 on Saturday, Sanders led them to a 34-7 surge in the middle of the game.
Led by Sanders, CU is in second place in the Big 12, with an eye on a spot in the conference title game on Dec. 7 in Arlington, Texas.
Sanders has thrown for 2,882 yards and 24 touchdowns this season, while rushing for four touchdowns. He is third nationally in completion percentage (72.9) and tied for third in touchdown passes.
Kansas cornerback Mello Dotson and West Virginia safety Anthony Wilson Jr. were named the Big 12’s co-defensive players of the week, while Arizona State’s Martell Hughes (special teams) and Sam Leavitt (newcomers) were also honored.
