Daniel Jackson kicked a 32-yard field goal with 3:01 left in the fourth quarter to lift Alexandria to a 17-14 victory over Armstrong in the Class 5A football quarterfinals at Monticello on Saturday.

Armstrong advanced to midfield on its ensuing possession, but Alexandria defensive back Evan Kludt intercepted Dawson Franke pass with 1:36 left, dashing the Falcons’ hopes. The Cardinals then ran out the clock

It was the first loss of the season for the Section 5 champion Falcons, who finished 10-1.

Alexandria, the Section 8 champion, improved to 9-2, advancing to the semifinals at U.S. Bank Stadium against an opponent to be determined later Saturday.

Jackson is committed to the Gophers, and this season he delivered a 54-yard field goal, tied for the third-longest kick in state history. Last season, he made a 52-yarder in the Class 5A quarterfinals against Rogers, and two years ago he made a 53-yard field goal.
