Snuggerud gets to the goals

One Penn State penalty was a five-minute major boarding called on Californian center Resse Laubach — who scored the game’s first goal late in the first period — for driving Connor Kurth into the boards early in the second period. It came after Snuggerud tied the score at 1-1.

The Gophers didn’t score on that power play, nor on minor penalties for interference and too many players.

But they did outshoot Penn State 33-22 in the game.

Snuggerud scored again late in the second period, with 1:38 remaining in the period and on yet another power play, which the Gophers finally converted. This time, they and Snuggerud turned Jimmy Dowd Jr.’s hooking penalty into a 2-1 lead they never lost.

Snuggerud stood his ground at the goal crease’s edge and deflected defenseman Sam Rinzel’s shot from just inside the blue line for his third goal this season — and, of course, his second of the night.

Snuggerud had evened things up early in the second period, with 18:24 still left in it. He did so with a sweeping shot from the left circle, finishing off linemate Brody Lamb’s pass from the far side of the net.
