The most significant categories in the consumer price index in the United Kingdom are Transport accounting for 16% of the total weight, and Recreation and Culture accounting for 15% of the total weight. Housing, water, electricity, gas, and other fuels contribute for 13% of overall expenditure, restaurants, and hotels account for 12%, and food and non-alcoholic beverages account for 10%. Also, the index includes miscellaneous products and services (9%), clothing and footwear (7%), and furniture, household equipment, and maintenance (6%). Alcoholic beverages and tobacco, as well as health, communication, and education account for the remaining 11% of total weight.

A higher than expected figure should be seen as positive (bullish) for the GBP while a lower than expected figure should be seen as negative (bearish) for the GBP.
